New Herbs and Stones Legs - eurorack kick drum and percussion module

video upload by Gianluca Herbertson

"Legs is an analog kick drum and percussion synthesizer module in eurorack format.

From rumbling low end basses to distorted warehouse window-breakers, Legs can synthesize it all!

https://herbs---stones.com/"

Legs is an analog kick and percussion synthesizer module in eurorack format.

It is based around a triangle core voltage controlled oscillator and a two levels voltage controlled saturation stage.

Each parameter has its own dedicated CV input, when a control signal is patched into any of the inputs its corresponding knob will act as a CV attenuator.

Two independent gate/trigger input with level control can be used to create accents, pattern changes and generally work on track dynamic.

Each of those inputs has its own trigger conditioner circuit so it can accept different types of signals, not necessarily rectangular waves or short triggers (its threshold is set at +2.5V).

The CV inputs expect voltages in the 0-5V range (a negative voltage won’t damage the unit and won’t affect the sound).

From rumbling low end basses to distorted warehouse window-breakers, Legs can synthesize it all.

Herbs and Stones "Pathways" - modular matrix mixer

video upload by Gianluca Herbertson

"Pathways is a modular matrix mixer designed for feedback manipulation, creative routing, weird synthesis, complex panning and many other things.

https://herbs---stones.com/pathways

00:00 clock dependent FX send / feedback + no input voice used as bassline synth

00:56 external clock divisions used to control FX send / return / feedback

01:56 LFO X & Y used to control pedal feedback

02:55 stereo no input mixing"

Pathways is a modular matrix mixer designed for feedback manipulation, creative routing, weird synthesis… and many other things.

Features:

• 4x 1/4″ inputs with gain / drive control, 4x 1/4″ outputs

• Each of the 16 matrix intersections can be controlled manually or via CV, a dedicated LED gives visual feedback of the channel volume

• An envelope follower is normalled to input four, the signal then gets fed through a clock divider with three cascaded outputs. Willingly, an external signal can be inserted into the divider

• Two voltage controlled LFOs can modulate any parameter and create dynamic feedbacks, asymmetrical panning, tempo-related fx send/returns

• If patched into itself, each channel can self oscillate so it can be used as a polyphonic cv-controllable drone synthesizer

• full eurorack compatibility, each parameter has its own 1/8″ input jack

• Pathways is powered via the included 9V center-negative
[ -o)+ ] universal power supply

What makes a good synth? // Herbs and Stones // Gianluca Herbertson

video upload by

"Disregard the convention in the search for playfulness - probably good advice for anyone who's looking to innovate. In particular with instruments, where playfulness is key to inspiration, prioritizing the experience over the 'perfect sound' might lead to happy accidents.

Gentle Wham and his older sister (or brother, however you wanna see it) Liquid Foam, are both quite special in that sense. Their sound is gritty and surprizing and their visual style, typography and icons reflect a bold artistic vision that does not conform.

Gian, from Herbs and Stones, started tinkering with electronics at an early age. But it was only recently that he has taken the step to make his own instruments.

In this conversation, we go through the various prototypes that lead to Liquid Foam. We touch on an unreleased filter 👀, and end with his latest creation - Gentle Wham!"

Playing live with nuclear instruments and unknown synths

Published on Dec 16, 2019 HAINBACH

Some new gear in the second half of the video includes the Herbs and Stones Liquid Foam and the Neon Egg Planetarium (demos below).

"In which I play an improvised live show with a setup that is new and barely rehearsed.

Usually when I play live, I like to work with the setup I have had for the past three years. In fact, the reason for this channel was that I needed an audience to get better at improvising on my instruments, the camera became an important tool to get good it. But after five weeks of doing art projects, theatre soundtracks and live performances I was burned out. So I decided to play myself a little bit - I choose a completely new setup. Only the Plumbutter was with me on stage before, the rest, including FX and mixer, are studio pieces. Some, such as the Boxcar I had never used in that function before, and one synth had just arrived that day. I did not even know if I could safely travel with the nuclear instrumentation modular rack, without it breaking. The excitement of trying something new helped break the block I felt and I had a good time at the show.

Neon Egg Planetarium - Sidechain Compressor, Reverb, Delay, Chorus

Published on Feb 8, 2019 NEON EGG

"This is the Planetarium from Neon Egg.

It's a stereo reverb and chorus, running into a delay (with stereo modulation) which then runs into a compressor (with external sidechain).

Create beautiful tapey wobbly reverb tails from any instrument, then sidechain it live to a drummer (or anything else) without needing a computer or click track."
